So: the update.
Well, no one at the club managed to convince me that the book was any better than I had originally thought. I’d say it was pretty much a consensus that the main characters were entirely unlikable and rendered the book such as well.
As for the club itself, it was…interesting. I’d go again, but I’m definitely not their target member. They know only that I’m in college, and even if I were “normal college age,” I’d be easily 20 years younger than anyone else there. As it is…well. One member in particular couldn’t stop remarking on my age. But I’m used to that, I suppose.
So yes, I’d go again, and I’m planning to. Next month they’re discussing Frank McCourt’s Teacher Man, so I guess I’ll end up with another two-part blog, hopefully one with a bit more substance to its follow-up.
